that brings with it 2 days off !!!
How nice was it over the weekend to take the hounds for a long walk around the property and cuddle each resident as we happened along!! For some of the ladies it was "worm" weekend where I took 3 Equimax wormers in each pocket and gave them all a good pasting.
I have to say for a mother of 12, Vera (Ophira) who is now retired, was most upset by this and would not have a bar of it and jogged around Trousers, trying to avoid the inevitable. Joie (Joie de Victorie) took a leaf out of Vera's book and wouldnt let me do it (mind you, Evan went straight up to her and just shoved it down her throat!).
Maddie (Madely Miss), was so impressed that she spat it out on me and I ended up with worming paste all over my clothes.
I was so happy just to be outside and amongst the horses, that I didnt care. (Well, not really!)
The Weanlings...
Max, Jimmy and the little man, Billy are all growing up nicely and I have noticed that they have a mad half hour every afternoon where its no-holds-bar in their paddock. Wee Jimmy came to a bit of grief after one helterskelter session and hurt himself resulting in him becoming lame in his near hind.
Well, we soon put a stop to their weanling antics and wee Jimmy is now in the Hospital paddock recuperating and thank goodness we have seen a marked improvement in him. Boys will be boys I guess .. hmm. especially 3 colts in a paddock together!
Joseph has settled in to his routine well and spends his days out in the big yard next to Lenny and Jake who love to have a bit of fun with him. Although come nightime, its time to put the rug on and he is locked into his stable yard. It's funny watching the horses get into their routines... God help anyone who changes it!!
Sweetie (Sweet Air) and Libby (Miss Independence) are looking most decidedly pregnant and we will start preparing the foaling area (with Barley) once the frosts have gone.
CONGRATULATIONS - must go to Bob (Centenn) who ran an outstanding race at the Gold Coast on the weekend and was only pipped at the post for second. Go Bob!!
With everything that we have gone through since coming up here, I sometimes wonder why Evan and I chose this lifestyle after the lives we were living ... and after the last 4 weeks I now know I could never go back.
Life is Good, isnt it?
Helen.
