that winter was thinking about packing it's bags and heading off somewhere else, we woke this morning to a rather cold, -0.6 degrees... brrrrr! With this brought a mild frost that naturally will turn all the green to brown. Boo Hiss Boo!!!
I have to admire the work that Evan puts into all the horses and you can see how they respond to him by walking up to him in the paddock and expecting a hug and cuddle. Even Joseph, who is a 2 year old colt, is as quiet as a lamb with him.
Watching him work the 2 little yearlings yesterday, Max and Jimmy, I can see the respect that the two youngsters have for him - there is no biting, striking or bad behaviour - just a respect that is only earnt, and not given freely.
Our 2 2year olds, Lenny and Jakey, a pair of scallywags that have on occasion scared seasoned horsemen by their young boy antics together, both have a deep respect and love for him and you can see that reflected in the way they treat him.
To him its not work, its a great love for them. And while they may not end up being Phar Lap or Northerly, they certainly have been given the best start possible and for young horses, you cant ask for more than that.
Helen.
