It's Been

a bloody hot day at Massie Lodge today...... in fact its been so hot Iam positively pooped! I have sat here and just polished off a litre of water (which is most unheard of for me....), thats how dehydrated Iam feeling. (I have just checked the mirror.... AAAArgh!!!! My face is as red as a beetroot... not sunburnt thank goodness... just from doing the feeds - maybe we should set up a roster with the senior mares and get them to do the feeds? I wonder if any of the others would get their feed if Vera and Trousers were in charge? lol

Chris and new vet to Warwick, Luke came out to see Sunny's foot (yes, there are lots of pictures to follow!) and to have a look at the little man to see how he was going.

Chris was very happy to see that the little man (pictured above) had gotten over his chest infection and was doing much better (in fact he was very surprised) - I did tell him that this little man is made of very tough stuff! Sunny on the other hand will now be delayed in her return to Paul Nipperess as she will need 3 months to get over her foot injury. Bloody hell! However in saying all of that, we are in no hurry to push her to race as a two year old. But she is certainly looking very well at the moment!

Next on the agenda is to wean Max from Maddie and get some bonding happening betweeen him and Billy - they have started becoming friends through the stable bars .... but its just about time for Max to leave Maddie's apron strings - and I honestly dont think that one will miss the other as Max spends more time hanging out with Billy than with Mum. Wee Jimmy and Sweetie wont be far behind Max and Maddie in the weaning barn.

I heard some very good news yesterday...

Sire Son of Century finds home in Queensland.

Euclase, son of Century out of Ruby (Century /Seventh Hussar) – a full brother to famous sire Rubiton, who recently passed away on 19th November, 2005, will make the trip from Western Australia to Queensland this week to find a new home with Jeff Marlowe at Alton Downs.

Mr Marlowe, a local trainer and fan of Euclase for many years, was very happy to announce his plans to stand Euclase for the 2006 breeding season to a limited book of mares.

Euclase now joins Centro (Caulfied Guineas) another son of the mighty Century standing in Queensland. Not to forget Dantibes (Danehill/Cap D'Antibes), who, though not by Century, is well represented on his dam line through Cap D’antibes and Kinjite (sire son of Centaine).

Although not commercially fashionable these days, Better Boy who was originally imported to Australia as a racing and breeding prospect certainly leaves a legacy to the Australian Breeding Industry through Century and his sons, Rubiton, Centro, Euclase, and Centaine (also passed away in New Zealand in 2004) through his sire son, Kinjite.

How good is that news? We are certainly keen to send one of our ladies to Euclase this year.

Charlie - aka Time Legend

Is doing very well down at Wadham Park and his pretrainer, Peter, is very pleased with him. Charlie has been doing lots of trot work this week to start the building up process. Peter said that they feed them 3 times a day and Charlie hasnt been shy with his appetite!

Throb - aka Lightning Angel

Throb has been sold this week and will go to a local trainer in Cunamulla. Bit sad to see him go, but he is a youngster that needs to be doing something rather than stuffing his belly full! Good luck little Throbbo.

Caramel (aka bitch?) lol

Is still with us. We are waiting for her to be picked up and this should happen in the next few days.

We are expecting 3 new arrivals in the coming week. Watch this space!

Well, its time for me to go and put my feet up and relax with a very cold alcoholic beverage.

Enjoy!

Helen.
