All Dressed Up.....

and dont want to go out...

Have you ever gone to the trouble of getting yourself showered and all dressed up ready for a big night out only to find that you really dont want to go and would rather spend your time in front of the fire, surrounded by a group of friendly canines (Spikey, pictured above) watching some crappy movie on tv?

That is how we found ourselves tonight. We had tickets for the function room at Clifford Park (Toowoomba Turf Club) for a night of socialising, food, drink (and the races) and really couldnt move ourselves out the front door.

So we got back into our comfy daggy clothes and here we are. lol

All is quiet here today with all horses being good boys and girls ... Evan is starting to become attached to Joseph who now accepts Evan giving him a cuddle. Oscar is as gorgeous as ever and will probably go back into work for his owners next week all being well after a second EMIT Therapy session on Monday.

Joey (Joie de Victorie) got a bee in her bonnet about something and was giving the 2 fillies next door hell - which was a good thing I think because Shortcake needs to brought into line occasionally!

We are continuing to look for a new home for Shore. He really is a quiet boy who needs someone who is patient (because of his shoulder) and not going to ride him around like a mad thing.

Well, time to go and jump on the lounge and relax.... hmmm. sounds good to me.

Helen.

I'm Sorry...

I know, its been a little while since I have posted on this blogsite. Well, I havent actually written in over a week BUT I have posted some piccies! Does that count? Will I be forgiven? Or have I been forgotten?

Lets get a few things out of the way before I start waffling on:-

Stallion Road Test...

For those of you who do not visit Gallopers website, the latest
Stallion Road Test was put up on last Monday. This handsome boy is a former Woodlands Stallion who really was dumped on the bottom of the list and forgotten. However, in saying that he has moved up to Queensland this year, will be standing for $3,300, has won stakes races, has produced stakes winners and can sell yearlings at the yearling sales. To top it all off his pedigree is absolutely delicious, in fact, you have to go back 3 generations before Northern Dancer makes a show. Very underestimated Stallion in my opinion, and to be perfectly honest I would not hesitate to send a mare to him (did you read that bit Evan? lol).

Go and have a look and see what you think.

Australian Thoroughbred Watch

Has had a makeover and looks pretty spiffy. All you have to do is click on the heading to go there to catch up on all the newsy bits around the industry and out of it!

Oscar

(Pictured above), has had his first EMIT Therapy treatment and was found to have some deep muscular pain around his rump and hamstring muscles. He will be having another treatment before going back into work. Why cant all horses be like Oscar?

Little Jo

A new arrival to Massie Lodge. Little Jo (of who I have already posted a pic) is a yearling colt by Specialize out of Chimes who hurt himself while being broken in. Little Jo has settled in very nicely and will be moved out of the hospital paddock in the next few days into the yard opposite the house (so we can keep an eye on him to make sure he keeps quiet and doesnt do anything silly).

Little Jo is not the mare "Joie" .... who is settling into mare life very easily. Currently she is in the day yard next to Shortpants and Flossie until we sort out which of our dry girls are going to be put into foal.

It has been a very cold start to winter here at Massie Lodge and the blades of grass are few and far between ... but's thats ok because that seems to be normal for this time of year. All horses are being hand fed and are doing pretty good going into July (which is another way of saying that they all have round bellies!).

We have had a few people out to see Shore as a riding horse prospect but as of yet, we have not got a new owner for him. We had a family come out and wanted an older mare, so we brought up Zandrea (our 17 year old Best Western mare) put a saddle on her and she wasnt impressed to start with. Well, she had her last race start with Lee Freedman in 1991! However, it all came back pretty quickly to her and she looked and behaved very well for her new owners under saddle.

Our good friend, Sue Black, came down over the long weekend with Patch Puppy and we all had a good time together with lots of good conversation, plenty of alcohol and good food.

Spikey, our newest addition to Massie Lodge who was a rescue dog, has settled in very quickly and is very happy in his new environment. Of course not wanting to shed any of the limelight, Bessie Merle decided to come into season on Sunday. Of course the $64,000 question will be, can Lancey do it? I guess we will find out sooner rather than later!

Well, time for me to go and put my feet up and have a cuppa...

Dont be a stranger!

Are You Sure It's Saturday?

It must be Saturday because there was wall-to-wall racing. That's right there was a race run somewhere in Australia every 2 minutes today.

Unbelievable isnt it?

While Evan was busy watching the races in between doing all the waters and feeds, I have been kept very busy 1) Posting on Thoroughbred Watch 2) Putting together this week's Stallion Road Test and 3) Writing this Post!

This week's
Stallion Road Test is Mr. No. Frill's himself. Is that a horrible thing to say about a stallion who hasnt won a Stakes race or produced a Stakes Winner, yet is very well priced to breed a winner? Dont bother sending a mare to him if you are breeding to sell. There is no money about there. However, in saying that, he is producing some handy horses that do race. His Grandma is a half sister to Northern Dancer. His mum did throw a Group 3 winner, so there is some blacktype but is no where near the class of Kaaptive Edition's family. He is a son of Bletchingly and standing here on the Queensland Darling Downs.....have I piqued your interest yet?

I spent some time giving the horses a bit of love up today .... lots of cuddles, getting their mane and tails combed and trimmed ... I can tell you that Shortpants was not going to have a bar of it! It's amazing what losing her warts has done for her confidence!!! lol

No, she is ok and is keeping Flossie on her toes I can assure you.

Shore and Eric are coming to an arrangement in their paddock ... I actually saw them within metres of each other today ... grazing! Perhaps they are slowly becoming mates... Shore still thinks that Southern is "it". And stands and gazes lovingly over the fence at her (until Queenie tells him to move on).

Well, time for this little duck to wind down and have some "me" time.

Dont forget to check out Thoroughbred Watch.

Helen.

-5 and counting...

Warwick certainly did itself proud today by making headline news in the Courier Mail....

Ice covers dusty land
By Brian Williams

QUEENSLANDERS shivering through the recent cold snap should spare a thought for those in Warwick.

Temperatures yesterday morning plunged to a freezing -5C, leaving icicles dripping from fences there. For the past week Warwick and much of southeast Queensland has woken up each morning to thick frosts as temperatures plunge well below normal for this time of year.

Warwick's cold snap is typical of the autumn weather that has shown Queensland to be a state of extremes. Most parts of the south ended a bone-dry May with the lowest minimum temperatures on record.

Brisbane Airport yesterday recorded a low of 3C for the official first day of winter, compared with a June average of 10.9C. Weather bureau forecaster Ann Farrell said the south of the state was subject to colder air masses moving through from southern parts. Fine and cold conditions with frosts were expected in the southeast into next week, with showers and warmer weather for Brisbane on Tuesday.

The early taste of winter saw Amberley, near Ipswich, record a May minimum average of 6.1C compared with its long-term average of 10.1C.

Stanthorpe's May minimum average was a chilly 1.2C compared with its long-term average of 5.5C.

Who'd want to live in Stanthorpe? lol So, it wasnt just me complaining... it really was cold!

Today has been a pretty hectic day catching up on a lot of Massie Lodge business and getting together some information for press releases for the relocation of Irish Royal and Kbenjar to Freestone Valley View Stud (formerly Clear Mountain). To find out more about Irish and Kbenjar, click on thefollowing URL to take you to Thoroughbred Watch. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Jim Hudson last night and he was absolutely thrilled to bits to be standing these two boys.

Adam arrived to take off Joey's shoes and do Sweetie and Libby's feet. Which meant a couple more hours out of the day.

I then wanted to spend some time with Shore to see how he was getting along... and he seems fine! He has already fallen in love with Southern (it must be a grey thing?) and detests his room mate Eric (somehow I think that feeling is mutual!).

Now to find him a good home.

Then it was time to come inside and post on Thorougbred Watch....

To say I havent stopped all day is correct!

Well, its 9pm and I have a date with the Godfather on cable tv (not to mention make have a cuppa and wind down).

Tomorrow sees the latest edition of the Stallion Road Test with a very interesting choice of Stallions - a son of Bletchingly. I have picked this particular stallion because I have very little knowledge of him and am hoping that there is more to him than meets the eye at first pass.

Until tomorrow,

Helen.
