Not a very good photo of my darling Miss Pip ... and certainly not the best one that I have however Im sitting at Evan's computer this morning and this is what is here!
Monika came and gave the ever loving Miss Pip her 15day Pregnancy test on yesterday. I have to say that I was full of trepidation and very anxious to find out. I can tell you that she was none to happy to have to go into the crush again. Gossy stood at the front watching her friend and I can just imagine what she was thinking (ha ha ... I dont have to go through that!).
We had some people come to see the Moon Man and both Evan and I were most impressed with the guy who had come with his daughter as he said that before anything, the Moon Man will have to have a decent break in the paddock. Well, that certainly won me. Moonie will be going to his new home today - which is on the other side of Warwick. I will be sad to see him go as he really is a gentle man who has a lot of love to give. Im sure that it will be reciprocated at his new home.
I have to say that that is one of the best parts about finding new homes for ex racehorses - its the fact that they are going on to, not just a better life, but a different new life where there will be none of the stresses of racing. Rain continues to ellude us (well we did manage to have a few spits the other morning at 3am), but the really good rain hasnt come yet. If you see any lost rain loitering around the place, send it over!
Evan has been busy with his blog during the Spring Carnival - want to know what his thoughts are for the cup? Better go and have a look at his blog!
After looking at the field this morning, it really is a sad indictment on Australian Stayers - which is itself a victim of the commercialisation of racing 2YOs as sprinters. I ask the question, "If you bought a 500,000 yearling at the sales would you be happy to let is sit in the paddock until it was a 4YO?" My feelings are that the State racing incentive bonus schemes are alot to blame as they encourage early 2YO racing with the prizemoney they are giving. Not only that, the highflyers of the industry also encourage early 2YO racing. Not mentioning any names.
