I was given this book for my birthday back in May and one thing that many people might know about me is that I always have a pile of books to read through and finally I have got to this one at the right time!
I actually started this book about 3 weeks ago and am really enjoying reading it. There is nothing fancy about it; it's the story of a man and his family and his life - an ordinary life that travels many roads to where he is today - the next President of the Unites States of America.
If you get a chance, have a read - its an extraordinary story of an ordinary man.
P.S - I finished Solomon's Song with many a mixed feeling. I enjoyed the Potato Factory - I loved listening to Tommo and Hawk but this book left me feeling a bit let down in many ways. The first half of the book catches up with the Tommo and Hawk story and it tended to jump into the future from chapter to chapter. The second half of the book was about the grandchildren with little or no reference to either Hawk or Victoria - Tommo's grandaughter who took over the running of Mary Abacus's Potato Factory.
What the second half of the book did do is give you a warts and all look at Gallipoli and the senseless deaths of many ANZACS.
The ending of the book was very different and I was completely taken aback by it.
I am sitting here shrugging my shoulders as I think to myself whether I would read it again. I dont think so.
