World Polocrosse Cup - Warwick

It certianly was the event of the year and has been deemed to be the most successful World Cup of its time. What a great day out! Susie Black (and grandaughters Tahnika and Ceelia), Monika and myself went today to watch a few of the games that were being held at Morgan Park in Warwick.

Many thanks to Monika who explained the rules which made the viewing much more interesting. Polocrosse is not for the feint hearted!

Well done Aussies for winning the 2007 World Cup!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

To frequent Massie Lodge resident, Centenn (otherwise lovingly known as Bob), who won an Open Handicap race at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Owners Nick and Jason are most delighted with Bob's performance after running a galant second in the Esk Cup a few weeks ago.

All reports are that Bob pulled up well and will continue on with his preparation!

GO BOB!

SNIP...

You are all probably wonder why the blog was not updated on the weekend as it usually is.

Saturday was a complete right-off for both Evan and I as the 3 colts were gelded by Monika and we were both involved in the process. Actually the process itself didnt take that long, it was the sedating and waiting for them to wake up that seemed to take the most time. After any procedure where a horse has been sedated it's important to make sure that they wake up ok and get back up on to their feet as soon as possible. We didnt have any problems with Rover waking up as he seemed to be asleep one moment and wide awake and trying to walk the next!

All 3 procedures went very smoothly and Monika ensured that all boys were up and moving well before she left Massie Lodge. After the boys procedure, Monika took the stitches out of the Dirty Girl's leg and then spent some time with the young girls, Isabell and Lucy before giving them their first 2in1.

We finally sat (fell) down to a late lunch at 2pm after ensuring that all residents were fed, watered and happy.

Its a bloody hard life at times, however, what else would you be doing????

Helen & Evan.

p.s. Please note that there are one or two photos that might make you a bit queasy.

Sleepy, sleepy Buddy

Ouch.... you should see the emasculators!

After the procedure, all the boys were given a shot of Penicillan and a Tetanus needle.

"I'm awake..... sort of...."

... snip ....

Rover was second cab off the rank on Saturday morning and it took a little more sedation to get him to go to sleep. However, once it took affect, he was a perfect angel. I really like to look of Rover, he has plenty of room to grow into, nice big hindquarters and shoulders and very much like his dad, Kinjite. He is very different to Lenny who is also by Kinjite. Lenny seems to have thrown to his mum . If you dont like blood n guts, maybe you should skip to the next post!

Finally, Rover becomes sleepy...

The big fella finally in the land of nod...

Hmm... no comment necessary here? Ouch.

Rover up on his feet ... it took a while for him to steady himself .

... and Snip

Last but not least was Jimmy, who surprisingly was not impressed with the sedation needle as he is normally very quiet.

...You're getting sleepy....

Jimmy finally awake.... "Where am I, What's been happening?"

Monika Meets the Girls

Both Isabell and Lucy are now at an age where it's time they get used to a vet handling them and giving them needles.

Last Saturday saw Monika come and give the girls their 2in1 shots - their first needles and while Lucy was not impressed at all with it, Isabell , was her cool, calm and collected self and just took it all in her stride. Its quite an important occasion for the 2 girls as this experience will go with them as they grow up. We are lucky that Monika is very good with the horses and gave the girls some time to get to know her before doing the yukky stuff!

Endama

and what might you say is an Endama?

Endama is the latest mare to come to Massie Lodge. Endama (or Annie as she is now known - pictured left with Lenny), was saved from the dogger at the last MM monthly sale (yeah I know, bleeding heart) and will join Sweetie and Libby as our resident broodmares.

Annie is currently in the transit lounge next to Voodoo so that we can put some condition on her.

We havent yet decided where we are going to send her this year, however, we have a few choices in mind.

Welcome to Massie Lodge Annie!

The Prodigal Son Returns

Young Maz (by Gatsby out of Belle Hareb) has returned after 2 years away. For those of you who have been following our blog since it first began, you will remember that Maz came to us as an Orphan weanling colt with Ophira (Vera) as his surrogate mum from Riverdene in NSW. Since then, Maz has undergone some serious growing up, and has gone through an educational prep with Mick Mair and is now back to stay at Massie Lodge.

It was quite an emotional reunion with the boy, who is quiet and very affectionate (and was enjoying the company of young Voodoo in the stable next door!),

Maz is now in the paddock behind the house with young Johnny (To Fast to Good) and Harry (Imaged) and has become fast friends with Johnny already.

We are looking to get some friends together to put Maz into training to see if he has some ability.

WELCOME BACK MAZ

It Had to Happen!

Finally, I have had the time to sit down over this Easter weekend and experiment with my Canon camera and the video function. It has been a little scary venturing into unexplored and unchartered territory for me, but I have managed to take a video and publish it on YouTube!

Now, let's see if I can post it!

Another Welcome ...

to "Imaged" (aka "Harry") who has come to Massie Lodge for a month or so after being purchased in Melbourne.

Harry has settled in nicely and is quite friendly with Rover, the Kinjite yearling.

Welcome, welcome, welcome....

to the newest Massie Lodge residents, 3 yearlings - 2 colts (at the moment!) 1 by Taimazov out of Candelabra (Buddy, pictured above), and 1 by Kinjite out of Princes Quoz and a stunning filly by Taimazov out of Voodoo Bird. These 3 youngsters will be broken in and eventually syndicated and raced in Queensland.

Welcome to Massie Lodge kids, enjoy your stay!

The Dirty Girl

arrived back from Oakey Vet Hospital last Tuesday after her little operation for some rest and rehabilitation, which includes a daily walk (and pick of grass) with Evan. She is in fine fettle and full of life.

The Dirty Girl's ....

.. exercise regime includes a walk up and down the alley way each day.

Being Isabell and Lucy

The education of our weanlings, Isabell (Dust in the Wind / Miss Independence) and Lucy (Pure Theatre / Sweet Air) continues with both girls doing very well indeed. Both girls are leading well, accept being pasted, and lift all feet as requested. The big test will be when Adam comes Monday week to trim their feet, however, Evan is confident that both girls will not worry with this at all.

Lucy has certainly come along way in a short space of time. Once she got over her initial fear of being without mum, the penny dropped and she has just leapt ahead in leaps and bounds.

Isabell continues to be very cute and cuddly (hmm, there must be some winning racehorse instinct in there somewhere amongst her cuteness!). She just takes everything in her stride, whereas Lucy has to think about what's happening first.

We're both very pleased with their progress so far.

Helen & Evan.
