once again follows me into the study and sits right down in front of the heater that has been turned on due to the coldness of the evening. I have to laugh at Lance, Bess and Millie because as soon as I get up, they will get up and move wherever I move to. Matilda at this point is sitting in the bathroom and has her nose turned into the space between the vanity and the wall, all because there is a storm about 20kms away with a bit of thunder.
Today has been an odd sort of day, chilly, overcast and with a few showers scattered throughout the day. We even saw about a minute of hail and that sent the horses right off! Sometimes its better not to look out and see exactly what they are doing.... I did notice that the preggie mares were standing 4 in a row with their backs to the storm. Why cant the youngsters take their lead from them?
Both Evan and I have taken this opportunity of inclement weather to sit back, watch some DVDs and just relax. I can assure you that there are not many of these sorts of days when both of us just want to sit still...today has been one of them, though when it has been more out of necessity as everyone needs to be able to do they're own thing. Actually it has been that sort of weekend as Susie didnt get a run as a third emergency, we really didnt need to do anything or go anywhere... so a quick trip into the local video store in Warwick, a quick check on supplies of alcohol and chocolate and we are ready to go!
Yesterday we spent some time with the yearlings - Lily, April, Shortpants, Lenny, Jakey and of course Miss Caramel. While Lenny was amusing himself with his soccer ball, Evan brought Jakey out for a walk around, some leading practice and a good groom to get rid of some of that hair! He is such a sweet boy away from Lenny (who is the instigator of all mischievous behaviour) and if I was to give him a name that represented how he looked now, I would call him Chicken McNugget!
LOL, no he's not that bad, he just has lots of bone to grow into, but dont get me wrong he is very strong in the hindquarters and is very much like a work-in-progress.
Its funny you know, they all seem to do their growing while Iam at work... and when I see them after 3 days at the office, crikeys, they all seem to have changed at a rate of knots. Lily is growing up quickly with her lengthening in the barrel and darkening up. April is just beautiful and is losing hair, hand over fist and is more of a young lady than a baby. Young Shortpants is currently up at the rump at the moment, and I have to keep remembering that she is the youngest of the yearlings.
I have calmed down just a wee bit since my last post about the stud on the Sunshine Coast, however, Havachat will be picked up tomorrow. Sorry, but sending a mare away to a stallion should not be like this, this is just crazy! I have a slight feeling that this will not be the end of this.
Bessie Merle has stretched, had a roll and is now standing with her nose over the keyboard. Lancey has just appeared and is standing on the other side of me with his nose resting on my arm. Millie has just moved so that she is now sitting under my chair with her paw on my foot. Do you ever get the feeling that they are trying to tell me something????
DINNER!!!!!! AAArgh!!
Who needs kids with these dogs?
May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.

I hope that the rain you had will make a difference although I suspect you need more than the couple of buckets that fell. We have just had a bit of a shower in Brisbane, but need a hell of a lot more to make a difference. Patch doesn't exactly like the lightning and sticks close when it's about. It's a good thing that he doesn't mind the cool nights because we don't use a heater or have an open fire. It's a dog's life, isn't it?
