Wee Jimmy Goes to School

It's really funny to look out my study window and not see Wee Jimmy roaming about his paddock with his mates Kenny Kinjite and Moony. However, Wee Jim has gone to Paul Moody's to be broken in. The time had come for the big fat boy to actually go and learn something about being a horse.

Jimmy, a rising 3yo gelding by Private Agenda out of our mare, Sweetie (Sweet Air) is really a sweet boy and loves his cuddles. Still, the time comes to all horses that they have to go away and be educated.

His best mate, Kenny was in a real flap when he left and called out for him for hours after the Higgins truck left our road. Still, Moony, who is due to go back into work at the end of the month up at the Sunshine Coast is keeping Kenny company until Jim comes back for a holiday.

Kenny is due to be joined again in the paddock with Storm who has had a months work with Trevor Wheeler.

Being Harry and Jack ... Weaning Part III

The training and handling continues with the young boys on a daily basis and as you can see from the photos, both boys have become good friends with Evan and developing a bond that is derived from trust.

GO MAZ

The boy has been back at Phil's a week now and they're taking it slowly with him. He's looking good and jumping out of his skin ... Gotta love the tongue sticking out ... that's just him.

Go Maz Go!

A Bloody Good Read

"The Persimmon Tree is unashamedly a love story. I've always wanted to write one but until now have been afraid to do so. The reason is simple enough: most men in my experience have very little idea of what really goes on in a woman's heart or head. Now, at the age of 74, I just might know enough and have sufficient courage to write on the subject - the way of a man with a woman, of a woman with a man.

My story is set in the Pacific, although not in the paradise we've always been led to believe exists there. It is 1942 in Java and the Japanese are invading the islands like a swarm of locusts. "

Bryce Courtney.

I hadnt read Bryce Courtney before this book ... how much have I been missing out on?

Once I picked up this book, I couldnt put it down until I finished all of the 608 pages.

It's just a bloody good read.

Helen.

MAZ IS BACK!

After a wonderful long break after an exhausting preparation (not much racing but being in the stables during the outbreak of EI), Maz is leaving Ross Spackman's spelling yards and is heading back to Phil Quinnell's stables on Wednesday. Maz will have a friend there already at Phil's in Shorts.

I have been promised photos from Phil on his return ... and I cant wait, it seems like an eternity since we have seen him.
His recovery is full and from all reports is jumping out of his skin and ready to go back into work. Which is great news for our little batter.

GO MAZ!

Weaning - Part II

With the girls now weaned and halter trained, it was time to get the boys out on their own and their mums out into a large green grassy paddock.

All is quiet tonight and we are hoping that the young boys can come out tomorrow.

Such a big change in their lives, but they have each other.

Another Welcome!

To short stay resident "Donny" - a showjumper (Thorougbred about 17 hands high) who has come to stay with us for a few weeks until his mum settles in a new school.
We're thinking that he is a registered thoroughbred as he has a brand - I am going to see if I can track down what his racing name was or if he indeed raced at all.

Donny is next to little girls, Trix and Daisy who are now out in a small paddock together.

Welcome Back Meggsie!

Desert Sun filly, Meggsie arrived back at Massie Lodge late last week after a months preparation at Jacaranda Lodge.

Meggsie has been an ongoing resident with us and its been great to see her grow up and start to mature.

Evan couldnt help giving the girl a cuddle. Always sweet and no trouble at all, Meggsie soon settled in and has made a good friends in Maxine, Dirty Girl, Joie and Maddie.

By Danehill Star out of lovely Centaine mare, Centority, Maxine will be staying with us for awhile before going down to share a stable next to Shorts at Phil Quinnells.

She's a real sweetie!

Baby Shorts

Shorts has had another run at a non tab meeting last weekened and is going well according to Phil Quinnell and Jamie Quinnell, who rode her on the weekend.

Thinking that she needs a goo
d mile, Phil started her in a 1200m and Jamie was most pleased with her effort.

Go Shorts!
